A place of panic

The area I live in and the school district my oldest child, along with other family members and children of friends attend is in a little tizzy at the moment. On the 25th apparently some 21 year old man in a drunken state was talking about the mass shooting that has happened in this country over the years. How he knew the one that did the shooting and that they are "friends." Not sure how much is true, or if it was only for his drunken state.
This man attends college at our local university. I live about 3 to 5 miles away from Lock Haven University. The same college that he attends and so does one of my good friends and a family member. As far as i know there has been no threat to shoot out our local middle school or high school, but the parents in the area are in a panic.
It seems the school knows about it and the rumor of this man to attempt to get into the schools and shoot people. It has been claimed that he agrees with the other shooters from the other mass shootings that it is okay to go into a school or other type of building and shoot people for bullying. It has been said that his friends say he would be one who would do something like a mass shooting. Someone has even said that he had a line from a Green Day song "I'm not sick, but I'm not well" posted on his Facebook status update.

I for one do not know how much of this stuff is true. I sit at home while my child, my only son, the only remaining male on my husband's side to carry on his last name and bloodline, is at school. I am very concerned, and his safety is my first priority, but he is only a kindergartener and the supposed threats are to our middle and high school. I will worry until he is home safe and sound and in my arms. I will worry tomorrow as I put him on the school bus yet again and hope he comes home safe to me yet again.

I have to believe that my child is being kept safe. In his school there is only one way to get and that is going through only one door at the main entrance and then being buzzed into the main office. You have to get pasted them before you can even get into the rest of the school. On the other hand there is no metal detectors to see if some adult or child for that matter is carrying something that could harm any of the children. I have to keep believing in my faith that our protectors will bring them all home safe and sound.

As much as I know my child loves going to school, most mornings that is, I am eventually going to home school both of my children. Mainly since my son has decided he wants to go into acting. That will require home schooling for the most part. There isn't a school around this area that would work with an actors schedule.

So as you go about your day please keep our area in your thoughts and prayers that nothing horrible happens. I don't care what religion you are, how you pray, I believe everyone has a right to whatever religion they believe in. Everywhere on Earth right now needs thoughts and prayers to keep people and animals safe.

Thank you for reading. I hope that you will not have to hear about any horrible news from my area. Thoughts and prayers welcome from whatever religion. Questions and comments welcome.

Thank you!

Insights

I don't want people to wonder how I pick names for my characters and how I get the situations my characters is in through out the book. I am going to let you into my mind a little bit in how I work things out. I have recently downloaded an app for my phone to record things so this will help me a little more get into the character's mind I hope.

How I get my characters names: Okay first I go with names I like and would have picked for my kids, but never used or there is people, crushes and whatnot, that I start with their names. For The Dark of Night I at first used my actual first name and what I'm called by my closest friends for the main character. I used it because it was a name I knew. I will admit I hate my name, but I wouldn't change for anything. I then changed it by googling baby names for the year of birth of the character's to find popular names for that year. Emilie I believe was in the top 10 maybe even the top 5 of girl names in what would have been her year of birth. Now because I love unique spellings for names I had to change it a little. The spelling I used is a popular way of spelling for anyone who uses that name now.
I got the friends name from baby names site as well. As for the others are mostly celebrity stars names, from acting to singing, that I like a lot. Some even the characters they play in shows/movies. Character twin brother had a different name to start. He actually started out as Zach, but I decided to change my mind about it because I think Austin went a little better with what I picture him to be than when he originally was thought up. Although I will admit he is named after one of my son's favorite show on one of our favorite stations for the kids.
Our lovely Rob is from my favorite actor crush, but doesn't have his look. At first he did, but I changed his looks. The looks come from another actor I like.

Relationships between characters: The big family has always been a big family. They all have the same last name with the fathers of both sets of four kids were twin brother themselves. They are a close family, but things did get harder to keep track of when all the kids are under one roof. That was how Em's condition of emotions went unnoticed for so long.
When Emilie was younger she would run into Robert when they were visiting. They liked hanging out together with Averie, which is Emilie's best friend along with being family. Rob might be the first of everyone to realize she wasn't herself. (Can't give too much away since there is still more to come.)
Megan cam on the scene when her and her friends were doing what everyone does best and bullies behind someone back. When realizing what she did wrong she decided to befriend Emilie and from there so far they are good friends. I can only hope that they end up with the kind of friendship I have with my small group of close friends.

How the story comes together: So when I'm writing the scenes I put down what is in my head first, but what you see isn't the first of what I wrote down. Some things change a lot some change a little. I write and print a lot on paper and write some more and print some more. I usually have to read out loud each scene, changing things when I need to. What I do as I'm reading is putting myself in each characters shoes. I bring the character into my mind and channel what it is that i would say and do in the situation the character is in. I kind of close of my mind to everything around me and bring up a picture of where the scene is and what would be around and whatnot and make myself the character. ind of blocking out everything and freeing your mind to let something else in.
I would recommend this for anyone who want to write fiction. Write what is there first then go back later to read it out loud. Clear your mind and let everything your thinking go. Pull the characters into your mind and just let what you would say in the same situation come out. Even if you have to do it a few times to get it just right. If you have to find someone who 1. is a supporter of what you are doing and 2. willing to help you any time anywhere with this. I have that. I might have to email her bits and pieces, but I love that I have that kind of person in my life.

I hope this helps you understand a little bit about how everything came together. I know every author has their methods. Everyone new one searches for a way to figure it out, but you can't allow what someone else does to get their story written reflect how you write. If you choose to do things the way I do with publishing or have professionals do it all for you, besides the writing portion, then make sure you can trust the people you have helping you.
I have my closest, long time friend edit things. I know I can trust her with any copy I email her or print off for her. You have to be able to trust the people that handle your work outside of you.

Now that you have an insight into my mind I can say I hope you enjoy where I have taken this story.

If you have not read on any of the other posts then I must say this story is not a personal experience. I have not lost my parents. They are both alive and well, living about twenty minutes away from where I do. I have never been really depressed, but a few things have sent me to spiral down just a little bit, but not far enough that I couldn't get back out.

Thank you for reading. You can get The Dark of Night on Amazon in both paperback and kindle. Today October 24, 2013 is the last day to get the paperback version for $6.75. It will be back up to $7.50 at end of day today. I hope to have the next part of Emilie's story for you in before or by Spring.
Remember to keep up-to-date with updates follow whatever way you would like.

Kindle Available

You can get The Dark of Night on the kindle. It is available for $2.99 USD to download. All you have to do is click on the title throughout this post to get to the page on amazon.com to download your copy of The Dark of Night.

Either at the end of this week or beginning of next week you will be able to get a paperback copy of The Dark of Night on amazon.com. You will be able to purchase that at $7.50 USD. With a purchase of a paperback copy of The Dark of Night you should be have the option to download the kindle version for free.

I will warn you that when I uploaded everything for the kindle version, since my pdf file was not compatible, it uploaded weird. On the kindle fire device there won't be indents to the paragraphs, where as the other device; paper white, kindle, iphone, ipad, all have indents and chapters on all devices start right at the end of the chapter before; meaning same page for most. I have kinks to work out,  but really it isn't about the format it is about what the words tell you.

I am hoping that it will show that there is someone out there willing to listen when you have problems you may not want to share with the people closest to you. That no matter what problems you are trying to deal with, someone out there will know how to help or just listen when you need someone to talk to.

I have not had a personal experience with depression, but I know plenty of people who have. Both my parents are alive and well, but I have known a few people who were killed in accidents. I know of one relative from when I was maybe age 10 to age 12 and my cousin was 15 and he was killed in a car accident. There have been some of my classmates, since we have graduated high school 11 years ago that were killed in car accidents. My younger brother lost his closest friend in a car accident after a party.

As for the therapy, I have never done that either, but there is one person in my family that has been there due to personal reason. Not exactly what this character goes through, but going to counseling, therapy, or seeing a psychologist are all forms of help that anyone can go to for whatever reasons.

I hope you take the time to read the book and enjoy it as much as I loved writing it.  I am working on the second part of her story. Keep an eye out for The Fire of Night. Be sure to follow to keep up-to-date with news on books and other things. Questions and comment are welcome and appreciated.

Thank you!

Official!

To all my lovely readers, I have some good news.

I can officially say that the book will soon be ready for purchase. I don't know for sure the exact date it will be ready, but soon. I submitted it tonight, technically yesterday since it is now the 5th and no longer the 4th. I am hoping it prints right since when I tried to look at the thing it had big gaps in the middle of chapter and beginning of chapters on the same page as the ending of the previous chapter. We will see once it is ready for me to review it and order the copy I need to for checking the printing and whatnot in it.

I can tell you the paperback copy of it will be $8.50 in US dollars. This is the price I set only because it was what equaled out for US dollars, Eruos, and GBP. I tried lower just for all my lovely American readers, but to deal with list prices for other countries I had to do what I needed to get this to other parts of the world than just my home country.

I hope I can let you know soon the date it will be available for purchase. It should be before Thanksgiving. Good thing for a young adult in life, I'm saying about age 14 or 15 up, for a Christmas gift or whatever religious holiday you celebrate.

More good news to come soon so be sure to follow to be the first to know about any news that you want to know. I'm on Twitter @author_jrtyger or follow me on Facebook J. R. Tyger.

Thank you!
